Main Water Pipe Bursts in Bradford
11/10/2011
Large areas of Bradford were left without water last night after one of the city’s main water supply pipes burst.
Major roads were closed as they were turned into running rivers and many residents across the city were left with no water for up to 3 hours after the pipe burst in White Abbey Road, Girlington, at about 8.40pm.
Engineers from Yorkshire Water worked through the night to isolate the burst and re-route supplies to homes and businesses and emergency services had to close off parts of Thornton Road, near the city centre, after it became flooded from the water flowing from the burst pipe.
Once the burst was isolated the drains were able to start coping with the flood water and take it away, but affected roads were left strewn with piles of flood debris. This had to be shifted this morning by a JCB as part of a massive clean-up operation.
